[2] VR Table Tennis

Here, I investigated the role of visual information in table tennis. The visibility of the ball, the paddle, and the body of the virtual player was manipulated selectively. I measured the effect of this manipulation on participant’s ability to perform table tennis strokes in response to the stimulus. I found that:
  • Seeing the ball was important for hitting the ball at the right location at the right time
  • Seeing the virtual players body and paddle was important for action prediction (the ability to predict others actions ahead of their realization)
